Cryotherapy

Cold Air Stream

Cryotherapy is based on the effects of very cold temperatures when applied to certain areas of the body. In this treatment very cold air (temperature generally lower than minus 30 degrees centigrade) is released via a tube and directed onto the treated area of the body. It is kept for between 15-20 minutes, dependent on the prescription of the doctor. The cold air from the tube reduces inflammation and helps relieve pain. This is an effective treatment for such conditions as swollen joints and tennis elbow.

Cold Packing

Cryotherapy is based on the effects of very cold temperatures when applied to certain areas of the body. A Cryo cold pack, is a special gel in plastic that has been frozen in the deep freeze of a refrigerator. The advantage of this cold Cryo gel is that it retains its coldness over a long period of time. To protect the skin from burning, this plastic Cryo gel pack is put in a cotton bag before being applied to the area of treatment. The Cryo pack, wrapped in cotton is then pressed to the injured area for up to 20 minutes or as prescribed by the doctor. The cold from the pack reduces inflammation, relaxes and helps relieve pain.

Cryosauna

Cryotherapy in a cryosauna is a unique method of a whole-body cold therapy, during which the body is exposed to extremely low temperatures down to minus 160 °C for a period of 1 – 3 minutes. Cooling the body as a medical treatment has been practiced for centuries, however only since the 1980’s with improvements in technology has it been possible to expose the entire body to extremely low temperatures. This procedure originated Japan and has spread to a number of European countries. Whole-body cryotherapy is safe and it is very effective. Due to the fast cooling of the body‘s surface, the blood circulation is massively stimulated - 4 times more than before cryotherapy treatment. This speeds up the metabolic processes and the removal of toxins and metabolic waste products. As a reaction to the cold, the organism starts producing a number of active substances (for example endorphins, corticosteroids), which have an analgesic effect (reducing pain). The treatment also has an anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect, improves the performance of the  immune system, in addition to improving physical and mental endurance.
