Hévíz Lake
The name of the town indicates the origin of the lake - water fed from hot springs. The lake located at the meeting points of transverse fractures, covers an area of 47,500 m2 and is the largest hot water medicinal lake with a peat bed in the world fed by thermal springs. The water contains sulphides, whilst the mud contains both organic and inorganic material.
The medicinal water gushes up from a cave spring at a depth of approximately 38 m. The average summer temperature of the water is 33-35 °C, however it never goes below 23°C even in winter, thus bathing in the open air is available all year around.
The water of the lake is famous for its healing properties, for rheumatic complaints, diseases of the locomotor system, muscle and neurological as well as gynaecological problems.
The Hévíz mud
The mud covering the bed of the lake has especially beneficial effects and is used as a pack treatment mixed with the Hévíz water.
The Hévíz mud type can be positioned between a purely inorganic mud and fango, with a large organic content. The many different plant fibres play a major role. The inorganic part is made up of mainly calcium and magnesium carbonates with sulphides and a slight radon content.
