Why St John’s Wood is worth a visit

When you are visiting London, there is a list of must dos that you can’t avoid. But once you’ve done them, or if you simply want to avoid the crowd and are looking for hidden gems in the capital, then you don’t need to go very far from the Danubius Hotel Regents Park.

Opposite Regents Park, we are only 5 minutes from St John’s Wood High Street which  has become over the years a little oasis in London with beautiful period buildings and quirky pop culture.

Close to the center, St John’s Wood as a tube station (Jubilee Line) but is also far enough to make you feel like you are out in a small town. Very popular neighborhood with the famous Abbey Road Studios and Lord’s Cricket Ground, St John’s Wood is also much appreciated for its little coffees, restaurants and designer clothes shops. You’ll find there fine wine and dining, all sorts of shops and just round the corner, two major parks in London, Primrose Hill and Regents Park.

Our favorite pubs

Duke of York: Located in the heart of St John’s Wood, The Duke of York is a must see when you are staying at the Hotel. Perfect for after-work drinks or dinners, we like to go there after a long week or simply enjoy the warmth atmosphere of the fire during cold evenings in Winter.

The Ordnance Arms: A bit further down than the Duke of York, The Ordnance offers a traditional decor, typically English. The atmosphere is cosy and the food is lovely.

Lord’s Tavern: If you are a cricket fan then it is definitely the pub to go for diner of simply for a pint and enjoy the atmosphere of Lord’s Cricket Ground. If you’re not a fan then not to worry, you’ll still like the modern decor and the pub food is delicious!

Our favorite food

Fego Caffe: Fresh and always good quality, that’s how we would sum up how the food is there. They even have a gluten free menu which is good to know.

Gelato Mio: Ok, we know, British Summer is not known to be the hottest one but you don’t need the temperature to be high to have an ice cream. This little traditional Italian shop does the most authentic ice creams (probably in London).

Harry Morgan: Probably known as the best New York style Deli in London, Harry’s offers a wide range of sandwiches, bagel and also deserts! (which you must not missed!). Take away or dine In, choose your option and enjoy!

Our favorite places

Abbey Road

Who has never heard of Abbey Road crossing?! It is probable the most famous crossing in the world, well it is only 10 min from The Danubius Hotel Regents Park! How convenient is that? Feel free to share with us your pictures 🙂

Lord’s Cricket Ground

Last but not least, we couldn’t talk about St John’s Wood without mentioning Lord’s Cricket Ground. Literally just across the street from the Hotel, Lord’s is known from every cricket fans and is definitely worth visiting.  If you are attending a game, give us a call, we are the closest hotel and some of our rooms even have a view of the pitch!

If you are staying with us, don’t hesitate to ask our Concierge for any directions or if you need help to book a table in St John’s Wood.
