Mariánské Lázně today
Mariánské Lázně during the Socialist era was a decaying town, but has improved immensely over the last 15 years.
Nowadays the town lives again thanks to spa industry and tourism. Among its other economic industries are agriculture, forestry and food-processing.
The spa industry is also a domain of education – The First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague launched a branch of physiotherapy and balneology in Mariánské Lázně as part of its bachelor studies programme. Doctors from the company Marienbad Kur & Spa Hotels - Léčebné lázně Mariánské Lázně a.s. also take part in lectures and specialised seminars for students.
The local high schools have also adapted their curriculums to tourism – in addition to the Secondary Grammar School, there is a Commercial Academy and Hotel and Catering High School.
Mariánské Lázně is situated directly on the railway and road route between Plzeň - Cheb, which enables good transit connections with the rest of the world.
