Where to go for sport
The first physical training organisation in Mariánské Lázně was founded in 1883, but various sports such as horse riding, hiking and pistol shooting had been held here a long time before that.
On 21 August 1905, the golf course in Mariánské Lázně was opened, and the first founding member was King Edward VII, King of England. Today the Golf Club organises numerous tournaments, namely world amateur competitions as well as a professional tournament on the Volvo Tour (the first professional tournament in the post-Communist region).
In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II awarded the Golf Club in Mariánské Lázně with the prestige title of a Royal Golf Club.
The tennis centre ‘U Lesního pramene’, with 5 clay courts and 2 hall courts and an artificial surface, is situated around 400 m from the centre of Mariánské Lázně, near to the road leading to the Kladská Nature Reserve and close to the Hotel Střelnice. The tennis centre offers ideal conditions for training and recreation as well as an area for professional players.
The Tennis Club in Anglická Street was founded in the 1930s. Since that time, the whole centre has undergone numerous changes before reaching its present appearance. These days there are nine clay courts for use. In the wintertime, an inflatable tennis hall is also available. The Galey Cup (a junior analogy of the Davis Cup) is regularly organised and held here.
The tennis centre is situated near the Forest Spring and belongs to our company Léčebné lázně Mariánské Lázně a.s. It provides tennis courts as well as inflatable heated halls together with the most modern surfaces to guests and tennis fans alike, and may be used by players especially during wintertime. You can visit the tennis centre every day from 8:00 to 22:00 during the winter season, and from 9:00 to 20:00 in the main season. We recommend that you book tennis centre services in advance at the reception of our spa hotels or at the information centre at the colonnade, which is also at your disposal every day.

Mariánské Lázně and its surrounding area offer very good conditions for lovers of winter sports. A number of marked routes are used during the winter months for classical skiing in the ‘Slavkovský les’ area, or adapted paths in the area of the local golf course. For lovers of downhill skiing, there is a newly-renovated ski slope with ski lifts and cables in the Ski Centre.
Mariánské Lázně is situated in the protected landscape area ‘Slavkovský les’. The whole area of the landscape protected area is interwoven with a network of marked walking routes, which offer tourists many interesting destinations. A part of the marked walking routes can also be used by lovers of cycling and cross-country skiers in winter.
Mariánské Lázně and its surroundings offer ideal conditions for lovers of cycling. A large number of marked cycling routes in the Teplá region are connected to cycling routes belonging to the Euro-region Egrensis. They attract tourists who wish to become familiar with the surrounding nature or various historic places of interest.
The horse riding company is situated in the area by the Hotel Krakonoš. It provides lessons for beginners and rides for advanced riders.
Lovers of water sports are attracted by the 60-hectare water surface of Regent Pond, which is situated 7 km from Mariánské Lázně. There is a common room with a fireplace, spacious boatyard, huts and a playground in the area of the local yachting club.
Other sport opportunities
There are swimming pools, a number of fitness centres and a squash centre. Other popular sports are walking, cycling and cross-country skiing, especially in the Slavkovský les area, which offers ideal conditions. For lovers of downhill skiing there is a skiing slope with a cable lift.
There is also a long track speedway, where harness racing, motorcycle and car racing often take place.
