The Danubius Hotel Regents Park is located right opposite one of the most prestigious landmarks in London: Lord’s Cricket Ground, also known as the “Home of Cricket”. Named after its founder,\u00a0Thomas Lord, it is owned by\u00a0Marylebone Cricket Club\u00a0(MCC) and is the home of\u00a0Middlesex County Cricket Club, the\u00a0England and Wales Cricket Board\u00a0(ECB) and the\u00a0European Cricket Council\u00a0(ECC).<\/p>\n

Every year, during spring and summer,\u00a0Lord’s hosts\u00a0Test matches,\u00a0one-day internationals, Middlesex home matches, MCC matches and Middlesex’s home\u00a0T20\u00a0games.<\/p>\n

This year, the cricket season started on 21st April with Middlesex vs Essex and will run until 22nd September, when Middlesex will play against Lancashire.<\/p>\n

Interesting facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Lord’s today is not on its original site, being the third of three grounds that Thomas Lord established between 1787 and 1814.\u00a0\u00a0His first ground, now referred to as\u00a0Lord’s Old Ground, was where\u00a0Dorset Square\u00a0now stands. His second ground,\u00a0Lord’s Middle Ground, was used from 1811 to 1813 before being abandoned to make way for the construction through its outfield of the\u00a0Regent’s Canal. The present Lord’s Ground is about 250 yards (230\u00a0m) north-west of the site of the Middle Ground.<\/li>\n
  2. The first test match played at Lord’s was between England and Australia in 1884, where the home side beat the Aussies by an innings and five runs. Australia’s first test win at the grounds was in 1888.<\/li>\n
  3. Located on Lord’s grounds is also the world’s oldest sporting museum – the MCC Museum. It contains the most celebrated collection of cricketing memorabilia including The Ashes which reside there permanently.<\/li>\n
  4. In terms of play, Lord’s is most famous for having a sloping outfield. The south-west side of the ground stands almost two and a half metres lower than the north-west side, causing considerable deviation to the ball when bowling.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
