The first spa building in Smrdaky was built in 1832-33 by Jozef Vietoris, the owner of land near the springs. In 1839, Nitra’s deputy city mayor Vietoris had the impressive grand manor house constructed for his family. After several reconstructions, it is still functioning today. With its classical portal, the manor house became the symbol of spas.

The charming small town in Slovakia owes both its name (which is derived from the word ‘smelly’), and its fame, to the sulphurous waters of its spa. Because of the salty, sulphurous and iodine water of its 14 springs, the spa is also known as Slovakia’s Dead Sea. Restore your health in a picturesque, natural setting in Smrdáky.
