The first tree bordering the famous lakeside promenade was planted in 1926 by the Indian poet after whom it is named, as a gesture of gratitude for his successful medical treatment. Since then, a whole host of famous personalities have kept up the tradition, including former President of the Republic Árpád Göncz, and cosmonaut Bertalan Farkas.
