Decorated with the paintings of Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely, the Cathedral gained its present-day form during the reconstruction work of the 19th century, but has retained the enchantment of the original mediaeval building.

The Jami was built in the 16th century, outside the “Szigeti” gate to the inner city. It’s the only mosque from the Turkish era that has remained intact together with its minaret. It’s used by the city’s Muslim community to this day.

This quarter, created during the renovation of the buildings of the Zsolnay porcelain factory, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year with its informative visitors’ centre, shops, exhibitions and buzzing cultural scene.

The Pécs TV tower and Lookout Point is situated atop the 535-metre high Misina peak in the Mecsek mountain range. At 197 metres, it’s the tallest building in Hungary. It houses a lookout deck, café and restaurant.

This octagonal, two-storey pavilion by the western city wall is first mentioned in historical records in 1818. With its pleasant garden, for 200 years it has been a place where local residents can stop to rest.

A special feature of the temple, which is divided into three main sections, is the organ built in 1869. The recently restored interior space of the building is also home to an exhibition of the history of the Jewish community of Baranya County.

Hundreds of padlocks signifying a pledge of true love hang from the iron fence of an alcove in Janus Pannonius utca. The wall of padlocks, which has been growing since the 1980s, is today an attractive feature of the town, and indeed one of its symbols.

This church, literally made from a mosque, was built in the 18th century by Paulist monks using the stones of a Turkish prayer house, to the designs of Máté Vépi, who was also a member of the order. Today it once again belongs to the Paulist order.

Discovered in 1975, this was the first underground tomb to be opened to the general public. Based on coins found inside, it may have been built in the 4th century for a Roman family.

Bishop György Szatmári built his Renaissance holiday home in the middle of his game park between 1505 and 1520, probably to the designs of an Italian architect. The Turks used it as a Dervish monastery.

The lookout point on the peak of the 535-meter Misina mountain can be reached on foot, by car or by bus. The Mandulás is a resting place on the south slope of Mt. Misina. It’s a popular destination for excursions.
This is the closest lookout point to the city centre.

Magyarürög, which lies at the eastern foot of Mt. Jakab, and the atmospheric Éger Valley to the north of it, are popular day-trip destinations for the locals. From here you can also get to the nearby Éger Spring.
